Ava had a little adventure and demonstrated her independence and ability to help herself in an unfamiliar situation. So the story goes…
Thursday after school let out (at 3:10 pm) Ava thought that Charlie or I would be there to pick her up and walk home with her. Mema and Bepa were visiting for the prior week so the routine was to walk home rather than take the bus to after school care. Well, Ava was confused when no one was there to pick her up so she decided to walk home (rather than go back in the school and ask for help). Ava walked all the way home and discovered no one was home so she decided to wait on the back deck. After waiting for some time she decided to write me a note and go to the neighbors house across WESTMORELAND (yes, its a busy street). She walked across the street, knocked on the door, when the children answered the door she asked for there mother. She told the neighbor that her mother was not home and, of course, our neighbor invited her in and gave me a call at 4:30 pm (1 hour and 20 minutes after school let out). While we have reinforced with Ava that she is not to leave the school without an adult, we are very proud of how she handled the situation, kept her cool, and helped herself solve the problem.
I am attaching a copy of the note Ava left for me. As best I can make out the translation is as follows:
“Stay, I might be please mom I need you here to come everyday early. 1825 Westmoreland. I will stay in the backyard.”
