Ava swam an excellent race this morning for her first ever Division 2 swim meet. She raced the breaststroke in very good form against the Oakton Otters. She finished in 5th place in the girls, 8 year old and under group.
Here’s a little background on how our swim team and league operate. Ava and Alexandra are new members of the McLean Marlins swim team. The 1st swim group is for 8 year olds and under. Unfortunately this means Alexandra probably won’t compete in the offical meets for another year or two. For Ava, this was her first ever official meet. The best swimmers at the weekly scrimmages are selected to compete in the official meet so this was a big deal for Ava and the family. It’s even a bigger deal when you consider that the Marlins are a Division 2 team (out of 17 divisions). This means Ava’s swimming against some of the very best swimmers in Northern Virginia.
We are very proud of Ava and how well she did this morning. This past week she worked really hard on her diving which enabled her to beat out the 6th place girl by only a foot.
